I am a weaver who loves time on my loom to create pieces for friends and family and for myself. I've always been attracted to fiber arts of all kinds and enjoy exploring and learning new ways to create with fiber.
I have been a handspinner since 2019, and now I've acquainted myself with the properties of wool I am ready to dive into weaving. I believe crafting using natural materials is an act of magical transformation and essential to the human relationship with the physical world.
Executive Director, Shelburne Craft School. I am delighted to help lead Shelburne Craft School and be part of the beauty and joy created by such an incredible community of artists.
I have held widely varying Non Profit leadership positions throughout my career and serving, small, magical communities has been a heartbeat of my life's work. I hold a BA and an MA in history and an EdD in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies.
Throughout my life I have enjoyed creative pursuits and delight in the notion of working and creating in this community. At Shelburne Craft School I am most proud of our partnerships with Champlain Housing trust that resulted in the creation of an art space at Harbor Place. Additionally our Weaving Your Story program brings me great joy. Finally our community partnerships with South Burlington Vet Center, Shelburne Farms, Shelburne Museum and Age Well make this work meaningful.
I live in Shelburne with my husband, Ben, who is an artist, our daughter, Rosie, who is six.
Jodie is a felt artist focusing on colorful, wearable art and the 3d form. She began her felting journey in 2014 when she saw a needle felting demonstration. Intrigued and wanting to learn more, she took a wet felting continuing education class at Rhode Island School of Design and was hooked. Jodie primarily wet and nuno felts with resists to create hats, purses, and vessels. Her creations are often eclectic in nature. She loves to play with texture and color.
I am an interdisciplinary artist working primarily in printmaking, textiles, and sculpture. Nature, folk art, religious and occult iconography, and the human figure are some of my main artistic influences and inspirations. Repetition of images and patterns is an important part of my creative practice, always asking me to consider materials and subject matter through the lens of iteration.
I'm a maker who enjoys exploring new crafts and returning to familiar ones. Mostly focused on the fiber arts right now (knitting, weaving, sewing).
