Loom controlled lace weaves can create light, airy fabrics, or firmer, textural fabrics, depending on the materials and setup. We will explore three popular lace weaves: Huck, Lace Bronson and Spot Bronson. Students will weave a project of their choosing on their own loom and will also weave a short length for samples to be shared with classmates.

We will cover designing for lace weaves, including setts, yarn choices, use of color, and modifying or creating a draft. Studio time will focus on the practical aspects of threading, tensioning, and weaving these multi-float weaves. Depending on project choices and interest, we may also cover hem-stitching and twisted fringes.

The instructor will provide drafts for a variety of projects, a month prior to the start of class. Project options will include scarves, towels, runners, baby blankets, curtain panels and clothing fabric. Other huck or Bronson Lace drafts are also fine.

Students will provide the yarn for their project, wind the warp at home, and bring the warp chain(s) to the first class. If students require use of the warping boards at the school to wind their warps, this can be arranged.

Level: Intermediate. Students should be comfortable warping a loom and reading a draft.
