Introduction
Join us for a weekend workshop where you will learn traditional heddle loom techniques to create a beautiful woven product by hand. Rigid heddle weaving is a wonderful introduction to weaving and you’ll quickly learn the handwoven possibilities are endless.
Rigid Heddle Looms are known for their simplicity and portability. In this introductory class, students will learn the basics of weaving as well as several weaving techniques to achieve a variety of textures and effects. Additional skills learned will be:
* dressing a rigid heddle loom
* preparing yarn for weaving
* finishing techniques
A rigid heddle loom is an ideal choice to economically learn to weave. The name is derived from the structure of the heddle (which functions to raise or lower the warp threads). A rigid heddle loom is the equivalent of a 2-harness loom, it will allow you to weave light work, such as placemats, dishtowels, scarves, shawls or fabric for clothing.
The completed project will be a sampler showcasing the various techniques demonstrated which will give each weaver plenty of ideas and inspiration for their next project!
