Students will learn the process of creating a painting and the steps involved and questions to ask themselves along the way so they can follow a painting through to finish. We will have still-life set ups for the students to work with. The instructor will demo throughout the class. Students will learn methods to block in a painting, creating form and space and seeing color relationships. Students are encouraged to bring in paintings they are currently working on for discussion and critique if they wish. Students will walk away with a strong understanding of the process of painting and a still-life and will be able to apply the same process to portrait and landscape as well. Students should bring in a canvas to work on 9x12 to 11x14 is good. They should bring in their palette, palette knife, medium, paper towels , no turps, a good array of brushes ( bristles, and badger hair are good) medium cups, bring your current palettte of paints. If you are a beginner paints should include: White ( lead or Titanium), Yellow ochre, cadmium yellow, cadmium red, alizarin crimson, ultramarine blue, cobalt blue, burnt sienna.
