Introduction
Weaving: The Basics and Next Steps
Have you daydreamed about weaving your own fabric, or been curious about how to make beautiful towels, napkins, bags, table runners... this list goes on and on! If so, you're in the right place.
Whether you are new to weaving or wanting to build on your foundational skills, there is a place for you in the Basics and Next Steps weaving course. In this 8-week hybrid class, weavers will have ample opportunity to develop their skills or try something completely new.
If weaving is new to you, you'll have an opportunity to weave in rotation on several fully warped looms to develop your familiarity with the motions and touch involved in creating beautiful cloth. You'll also see how different weaving "drafts" create different patterns, how various yarns behave and how color impacts overall design. Students will also be introduced to winding warps and dressing looms.
For those with some weaving experience, you'll be supported in taking your skills further by making a warp and dressing a loom with a project of your choosing. There will be ample support in gaining skills that will usher you into more confident weaving.
At the end of this course, you will leave with an assortment of fabric samples you wove yourself or the length of fabric from your individual project.
*** Weaving fabric on a floor loom is an art and craft that takes time. Being able to attend at least one Open Studio per week will increase your time at the loom and will allow for greater practice and satisfaction in what you've learned and made.***
