Introduction
Participants in this intensive weekend workshop will learn the fundamentals of taking flax from seed to spun linen using traditional processes and hand tools. We will discuss where to source textile flax seed, how to grow and harvest flax, and the secrets of water and dew retting. With break, scutch and hackle we will turn retted flax straw into line and tow. Using hand spindles and spinning wheels, we will create a truly handmade linen yarn.
No previous spinning experience required, but if you have a spindle or wheel of your own, you are welcome to bring it.
