Introduction
In this half-day workshop, we will explore a variety of natural materials and their potential to make cordage. Cordage is one of the earliest technologies developed by humans, and requires no tools beyond your two hands. We will work with hemp, flax, bark, and other materials that can be found and foraged from our local environment to make strong, two-ply lengths of string-like material: cordage!
Our cordage can become a variety of useful items on its own, and the basic skill of twisting materials together into a strong string can be built upon to make nets, bags, baskets, and more. The iInstructor will provide all materials needed for the workshop.
Suitable for ages 10 and up.
This workshop pairs well with our weft-twining workshop.
