Introduction
Are you interested in learning how to paint with oil but not sure where to start? Do you have some oil painting experience but need guidance in technique and material process? Using the Landscape as our guide, students in this course who are new to painting learn the fundamental techniques of oil painting, while students who have some knowledge are challenged with more in-depth study and practice of the medium. Did you know that oil paints are just pigment suspended in drying oil? It is one of the most versatile paint mediums; oil paint is able to achieve a range of effects from thin glazing to heavy impasto. Imagine setting up your painting easel in our courtyard and other inspiring outdoor locations as you learn about how to create your palate, mix paint, and learn about the foundations of oil painting. Each session will begin with a demonstration followed by time to practice the new technique as well as one on one check-ins. Students are encouraged to be prepared to work outdoors, weather permitting.

Black (i.e. Mars, Lamp or Ivory)
Raw Umber
Burnt Umber
*Titanium White -Large tube
Extra: Yellow Ochre or Raw Sienna, Burnt Sienna, Dioxazine Purple.
You need a warm and cool of each color:
Blue: Ultramarine Blue (warm) & Cobalt Blue (Cool), extra: Cerulean
Green: Sap Green (Warm) & Viridian (Cool)
Red: Cadmium Red Medium or Naphol red (Warm) & Alizarine Crimson (Cool)
Yellow: Cadmium Yellow Medium (Warm) & Cadmium Yellow Light/Pale or Lemon Yellow (Cool)
Feel free to purchase a painting set to start. They might not have the exact same colors but you
can add other tubes as you go.
Solvent (both to be used at home or outside the studio): Gamsol (odorless mineral spirits) or
Spike oil (non-toxic but pricey and stinky)
