Sunday: 10:00 am – 2:00 pm
Monday: 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm
Tuesday: 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm
Wednesday: 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm
Thursday: 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm
Friday: 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm
Saturday: 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm
Clay Course Guidelines and Expectations
All pieces must be :
Waxed on the bottom plus 1/4 up the side
Made during the current semester with our clay in our studio
Please no production potters
If you need special arrangements please see the studio manager
Space in the gas kiln is limited to 12x24x12
Due to the need of air flow in this kiln, please no plates
Space in the electric kiln is limited to (3) shelves approx. 27x13
Be sure to have your piece glazed before class
Wear tight fitting clothes, jeans and leather shoes are best. Pull back all the hair that you wish to keep.
The amount of kiln space in the raku kiln is determined by your class size, please check with your instructor if you have any questions. It is recommended no more than 2-3 pieces to assure proper attention.
Every week there are scheduled open studio hours for currently enrolled students. The hours change per session depending on the class schedule. Open studio is for individual work and not instruction.
During open studio hours you must sign in. There is a sign-in sheet on a flipboard located next to the door.
Allow for fifteen minutes for clean up before the end of class/open studio time. You are responsible for leaving the studio as you found it or better.
Safety: NO sanding or scraping inside
All work must have your name on it
You may only use clay purchased from Shelburne Craft School
Wet work needs to be complete by the 2nd to last class
Please bring your own apron and towels
Your registration for this course includes the first bag of clay and includes material costs for glazes and firing. Second and Third bags of clay may be purchased in the office during office hours for $30/bag of white or brown and $40 for porcelain. Students may not exceed 4 bags of clay per course. If you need to purchase a 4th bag it will be $45, this includes extra firing costs.
Each Student is given one shelf. You must keep all of your work on your shelf.
Food may not be consumed in the clay studios at any time. Covered beverages are okay.
Please refrain from using your cell phone in the studios. You may make personal calls outside or in the Fishbowl Classroom.
Due to limited space students have up to one month from the last class date to pick up and take home completed work. Failure to do so may result in disposal.
Last Class/Open Studio: No Wet work!!! Glazing and trimming only.
The Shelburne Craft School reserves the right not to fire any work that is not named or prepared properly. We are not a production facility and we reserve the right to refuse to fire work that is intended for production purposes.
