Travel to Japan with the Craft School! This craft centered tour will include small gallery tours, workshops in studios that one can only gain access to with insider information. You will visit Bizen, a Ceramic Festival, Nishijin textile area and take part in a traditional tea ceremony among many other vibrant experiences.
11/14: Depart from BTV
11/14: Arrive late, transport from airport, check into hotel
11/16: Kyoto orientation, Introduction to Kamo River and Okazaki Area Museum of Traditional Crafts (Possibly visit Miyako Messe Center, Kyoto City Museum of Art)
11/17: Visit revered potter Kawai Kanjiro's studio/house, explore Yaska/Gion area
11/18: Experience Bizen-visit studios, galleries, kiln, possible experiential component working with local clay.
11/19: Ceramic Festival in Higashiyama area of Kyoto-possible interaction with master potter Mori Shunzan and apprentices
11/20: Visit Nishijin Textile area, bus to Arishiyama/Sagano area, Suikoushya Internation Craft School (woodworking)
11/21: Flea Market and temple/shrine Kobo-San, Visit Higashi Hongan-ji and/or Nishi Hongan-ji
11/22: Free Day-options Tokyo, Hiroshima, Nara, Kurama temple and Onsen area, Shigaraki prefecture, or other sites in and around Kyoto
11/23: Visit Raku Museum, Traditional Tea Ceremony
11/24: Dye workshop and visit temple Sanzen-in Ohara area
11/25: Wood Block Printing workshop: free afternoon: option to return to ceramic festival, or, tenpin-san market, etc.
11/26: Daitoko-ji temple gardens, Kyoto shopping (paper, knives, fabric, craft materials, etc)
11/27: Departure for Vermont
This includes: air travel, lodging, experiences (galleries, workshops, museums), some meals, interpreters and ground transportation
It does not include: Travel insurance which you are required to purchase, some meals and free day activities.
