Introduction
Spoon carving is a delightful passtime, accessible to all. Working with freshly harvested green wood, participants will begin with a well-prepared kitchen spoon blank to learn the foundational grips and techniques of spoon carving with a straight knife and a bent/hook knife. There will be equal measures of instruction, demonstration, and hands-on practice. With an emphasis on safety and steady progress, participants will learn how wood type and grain influence carving while crafting a personal kitchen spoon. Instruction on drying, embellishments/decoration, and finishing will be offered at the end of the session. All tools and materials will be provided.
